The Alexandra Foundation is a registered charity established in 1977. As a non-governmental organization, the Foundation’s purpose is to support Neighbourhood Houses in BC and similar community groups. Income generated by the fund provides grants and loans to further the aims and objectives of the neighbourhood house movement. A primary goal of the Alexandra Foundation is to assist in the critical start-up phase of new Neighbourhood House organizations and to support the expansion of existing Neighbourhood Houses.
The Alexandra Foundation is supported by a trust fund, investment income, individual gifts and bequests. For more than 30 years, bequests and donations have helped to build neighbourhood houses in the lower mainland and BC. Today, there are over two dozen neighbourhood houses across BC, eight of which are the Association of Neighbourhood Houses. Neighbourhood Houses are places where the local community comes together to address social and cultural needs, meet community concerns and celebrate life. Houses ensure that more than a quarter of a million community residents are welcomed and able to participate and plan a variety of community programs for all ages.
The Foundation’s funds help to build neighbourhood services by opening new houses in various BC neighbourhoods and assist existing houses to grow to meet increasing demands. Your donation dollar not only puts food on the table but builds the kitchen to support on-going food programs for hundreds of the communities’ hungry.
